Since I have been on Guam (over a month, I arrived on April 19), my major focus has been to recruit the adult mentors for the project. I have had the most difficulty with the Director position, but I can take on this role, and we'll be fine. There are a few possibilities still out there, but if none of them pull through, we go to plan b, which is me as the Director mentor. Right now, I am the Project Coordinator, which is like the Executive Producer. A Director oversees the entire production from an artistic point of view. Because I am the playwright, I know what this means. The whole idea of the project is for collaborators, so I welcome others to participate but as I said, we'll manage on Plan B.
We are fine with all other mentor positions:
Drama Teacher: ( Responsible for the activities at the workshops that bring out dramatic expression ) Dance Aoki
Set Design: Allan Arriola (worked on sets with Drea on the Nihi PBS show, and other projects.)
Costume Design: Drea Grajek (Drea is an artist whose strength is drawing. Because I was looking for someone who was creative, who would be open to working with scraps, thrift store materials, and the like, I proposed to her that she take this on. She agreed! I love that can-do attitude and excitement over creative opportunities.)
Vocal Teacher: Tara Franquez Garrido
Choreographer: Danielle Dizon
Chamoru language Teacher: Joey Franquez (teaches Chamorro at GW and UOG)
Suruhana: Bernice Nelson
I am close to securing a Traditional dance instructor.
